My 5 Cents Worth

I have wanted to fully embrace my “Lucy-ness” forever. After all,

she’s very opinionated,

bossy

sarcastic, and

often crabby.

She’s protective of her two brothers,

quick to hug a dog, and a

loudmouth who loves the sound of her own voice.

She believes in women’s rights,

is strong-willed and ultimately

aspires to be in a position of power.

Check. Check. Checkity, check.

So why didn’t I champion her before now? Because she gets perverse joy from tormenting, teasing, belittling, and bullying people. That part of her has never resonated with me. Of course, I realize she’s a fictional character from a comic strip, but her traits are pretty darn on point with the human experience. She’s got a big ego (which I think of as equal parts insecurity and vanity) and honestly, same. How she handles her insecurities and vanity makes her a work in progress; she is only six after all. As Maya Angelou wisely said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.”

Aside from sharing some of Lucy’s character traits, for me, the most compelling thing about Lucy is her advice booth. It’s my inspo for a business model. A simple, no-frills booth with clear signage and expectations that allows her to share what she loves to do with others in her own time.

Freaking brilliant right?!?

For years I wanted my business and life to be that simple. Like many folks starting out I got easily sidelined by well-meaning friends, family, mentors, peers, and colleagues who shared A LOT of you shoulds, you have tos, you need tos, if you were smarts, you musts, you ought tos, you’re supposed tos, and if I were yous. Here’s my issue with that, by ingesting all of that, I was ultimately reflecting what someone else wants or expects of me instead of what I wanted.

What I want is simple; to create, ideate and share. Being creative is in my genes and ideas burst out of me like water from a hose so those are natural to me, that’s the simple part. The hard part is the sharing. Not the act of sharing, that’s pure joy. The difficulty comes from getting others to see, feel and trust what I’m sharing, because what I’m sharing just might be the most creative, authentic, vulnerable, innate, obvious, and affirming mirror that’s ever been held up to potential.

STACY CONNECTS is a no-frills business that offers highly creative and intuitive insights and ideas to anyone willing to pull up a stool and stay for a while (and pay more than five cents).
